Rajamaa snow-mobile safari in two countries, Sweden and Finland. The tour goes also on the ice of the frozen mighty River Muonio. Lunch-brake at the cabin "Tievan Kämppä", where the guide John is making fire.
Camp fire among the snowy trees in the wintry Lapland forest.
Today we say goodbye to the sun, for this year. Six weeks it will stay under the horizon and rise again (or just half of it) the 10th of January. Here are some pictures of the last beams.
This morning was the first really cold one for this winter. Temperature - 28,4 C, and the rvier is rapidly freezing. The birds that we feed, need a lot of food. Fat and seeds.
As we are waiting to open the winter season, here are some pictures from last year.
This is our friend the fox "Reban". Kaisu has been giving him something to eat for several years and now he is quite tame. He notices when we are in our home and comes to get something. At Rajamaa restaurant he normally comes in the evening at dinner time....
The old fridge desk from Rajamaa restaurant was brought out today. Anyway its long and faithful service has not yet ended. Instead of being brought to the recycling station it continued to serve as table for cutting frozen meat. Of course by our friends and partners at Northern Huskies Sleddogs. Here Mateo, Henning and Sebastièn have just unloaded the (very) heavy counter. The old "bowl" for keeping drinks cold will now serve for feeding the puppies at Northern Huskies.
After 26 years of good service here at Rajamaa (nobody knows how long time before that), the old refrigerator counter has retired. Everybody whos has spent time in the restaurant of Rajamaa is familiar with the noice...
Henning is here sitting on the old one and the new (almost) is at its place. For the coming season it should be working (with less noice.)
Our friends in the Polish Ski Team left today, after 17 days of training camp here at Rajamaa. They now continue for competitions in Gällivare and Rovaniemi.
They have been really nice guests, and we wish them all the best for the coming season.
Here are some more pictures from last winter. They are taken by our guests here at Rajamaa.
