Here John has made "Lumber-jacks candles". In finnish "Jätkänkynttilä". It is a dry log that is sawed almost the whole way and then lit. Gives warmth and you can cook on it!

One of the advantages with living in Lapland is that we have Santa Claus as neighbour.
As always we can send a proof of that he has left Lapland and is on his way.

Merry Christmas to all friends around the world

"Herra armahti. Se käänty myötäselle"
In Lapland everybody knows that 21.12, the day of St Thomas, is not the end, but the beginning.
Today is the shortest day of the year, and on this picture You can see how it looks on mid-day direction south.
For now we don't see the sun at all, but it will rise the first time over Mount Pietariaisenvaara on the 10th of january.
From now on the days start to get longer. Here at Rajamaa the day will be 30 minutes longer in the morning, and 30 minutes longer in the evening. Every week!

The quotation in finnish means: "The Lord was merciful. It started to go down-hill"
