Äventyrs Översikt

Arctic Canoe Route is a paddling route and has a total length of 520 km, the route is following the Könkämä, Muonio and Torne Rivers that together combined is one of the last free floating and clean rivers in Europe. The total length of the Arctic Canoe Route is 520 km and it´s divided in to 2 different parts and a total of 11 sections.
The river/route starts at the tundra in Kilpisjärvi where the 3 Scandinavian countries Sweden, Finland and Norway meet. The river floats in the north trough total wilderness and continues later south along the Muonio river valleys, small villages and farming country all the way to the Baltic Sea and the end in Haparanda/Tornio
The river consists of slow and shallow parts and a total of about 100 rapids, everything from easy Class I rapids to the more considerably more advanced Class V rapids.
The idea of Arctic Canoe Route comes from the well known competition ACR that where arranged during the 1980-1990´s on the same river that we will follow.
We want to point out however that the main goal for Arctic Canoe Route is not to arrange competitions.
Our main goal is to get the magnificent river well known again for its clean waters and amazing paddling opportunities it gives and give people the opportunity to paddle it in a organized and safe way together with our certified guides that have life long experience of the waters.
Our tours will be “all included” that means that we will pick you up at the train station or airport. The 2 guides that you will have during your stay by us will have the kayaks + all euipment ready for you and also accommodation and breakfast, lunch-packages and dinner for you each night.

Dag för dag

Dag 1

Arrvial

Pickup at the airport and transfer to Rajamaa. We start with meeting up the group and the guides at Rajamaa camp before dinner. A briefing about the week after the dinner.

Dag 2

Kilpisjärvi to Keinuvuopio (17km)

Breakfast, transfer to Kilpisjärvi where the three Nordic countries, Sweden, Finland and Norway meet. The very first day of the adventure starts from the higher treeless fell plateau. The adventure has started! We will encounter the first bigger rapid called Kilpisluspa which we may have to go by portaging the gear and the canoes. We will run several rapids along the way, but some we pass portaging. For the guides safety goes first. We stay for the night at the old Sami village of Keinuvuopio on the Swedish side of the river where the dinner is waiting for us.

Dag 3

Keinuvuopio to Iitto (23km)

Along this beautiful approx. 23 km long canoeing passage the group will take on several (10-12 running rapids all class 1-3). There will also be wider and clear lake areas for easier going once in a while. That is if the wind is with us! We will find a place for the night on the Swedish shore after we passed the rapids.
