Let the wintry Lapland forests embrace You!

Day at own disposal. Perhaps try to, as an option, participate in a snow-mobile safari or try horse-back riding in the wintry forests. Dinner at the restaurant. After dinner we present, in words and unique pictures, the last of “The big four”, the Scandinavian big predators. Today the “King of the Forest”, the Bear. If we are lucky, and the sky is clear we gather outside to admire the Northern Lights.

After breakfast we go, to meet a Saami family. This family lives in between modern life and an ancient form of rein-deer herding. We will get to hear about the rare culture, about old days and today’s work with the animals. The herders will show us how they work and we eat a lunch inspired by Lapland before going back to Rajamaa. Dinner at the restaurant.

Today we start a tough 2-day tour on “forest skis”. We carry equipment for the day in small rucksacks; the rest will be transported to the cabin. The tour goes along frozen lakes and swamps. Along pine clad hills and valleys, once created by the Inland-ice. The area is very important for the reindeer husbandry, and holds also moose. Our “hotel” is a big log-cabin for forest workers, heated by fire and with water melted from snow. We all participate in preparing the supper and heating the sauna, before going to sleep. That is, if the impressive Aurora Borealis, is not keeping us awake.

After breakfast we take the skis and head back again. Route is, as always, depending on where the reindeers are, to make as little disturbance as possible. There are also a lot of moose in the area, and sometimes we can come across the tracks of Lynx or Wolverine. In the afternoon we will be back in Rajamaa, for a well-deserved sauna. Dinner at the restaurant. Afterwards we make a feed-back for the week.
