Adventure Overview

The vast Taiga forests of Lapland is home to several wild animals. Here in the wilderness they are very shy, and difficult to see. Together with the guides of Rajamaa in Lapland, You have the possibility to get close to some of these animals. We arrange wild-watching excursions to see brown-bear, eagles or beavers.
These tours are partly included in our summer adventures, but it is also possible to just book a wild-watching tour.

Brown Bear (Ursus Arctos)
The program goes from end of June to mid of September.
We drive out in the evening about 17-18-19 o’clock, depending on what time of summer/autumn. The transport, 30 min, is made with Rajamaa’s minibuses. From the forest-road, it is about 1 km walk through the forest. No talking after we have left the buses. This is very important!
In the hide there is a bed for everyone with a mattress, pillow and sleeping-bag, clean sheet and pillow-case. There is a caravan-toilet so no one leaves the hide during the night.
Everyone takes turns in watching for the bears, and there is possibility for the other ones to sleep.
We have put out food on different distances, 100 m, 60 m and 40 m. There is a canvas opening for the cameras by every window.
In the morning, we walk back to the road, and drive to Rajamaa. For the ones that want, it is possible to buy breakfast.
WE HAVE A BIG POSSIBILITY TO SEE BEAR, GOLDEN EAGLE AND WHITE-TAILED EAGLE. THERE IS THOUGH NO GUARANTEE AS THESE ARE WILD ANIMALS. IT IS A CONVERSE ZOO. WE ARE IN THE CAGE, AND THE ANIMALS COME TO LOOK AT US. IF THEY WANT TO. NORMALLY THEY WANT TO.
Price: 190 EUR/person.  Breakfast is 14 EUR/person.

European Beaver (Castor fiber)
The program goes from end of June to mid of September.
We drive out about 16 -17-18 o’clock, depending on what time of summer/autumn.
The transport, 45 min, is made with Rajamaa’s minibuses. We arrive in the Pessinki Nature Reserve, where we carefully approach the river of Merasjoki. We cover faces and hands and make sure that the beavers can’t see us. From the rocks above we can overlook the river and the beaver-hut down by the shore. Depending on the time of summer, the beavers are active eating or/and cutting herbs and branches to store for the winter.
The total length of the program, including transports, is about 4 hours.
WE HAVE A BIG POSSIBILITY TO SEE BEAVERS, AS THEY NORMALLY ARE ACTIVE AROUND THEIR HUT. THERE IS THOUGH NO GUARANTEE AS THESE ARE WILD ANIMALS. IT IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT NOT TO BE DETECTED BY THE ANIMALS.
Price: 90 EUR/person.

Accommodation & Meals

On an island in the mighty River Muonio, overlooking two countries, You will find Rajamaa. Rajamaa consists of a main building, with reception, dining-room and sauna. Close by are our hotel-chalets, and around us the vast Taiga forests of Lapland. Except for the small village with 7 inhabitants, there is only wilderness. Here You will enjoy the calm of the Lapland nature, sleep like a log, and eat home cooked food.

Chalets

Typical Swedish wooden chalets, as always, red with white corners. Lots of wood inside these comfortable, fully equipped hotel-chalets. All of them have been totally renovated during 2018. The smaller ones have 2 beds for twin or double. The bigger ones have two bed-rooms with 2 beds for twin or double and one big living room with two beds. Totally 6 with the extra beds. All chalets have ready-made hotel beds, shower/WC, mini-kitchen and electrical drying closet. And a view over the river and two countries!

The dining room

All meals, if not eaten outside in the forest by a fire, will be enjoyed in our dining-room. The splendid view over the river will increase the appetite. All the food has been prepared in our kitchen from start, and the bread is also baked there. As much as possible we use Lapland produced, such as moose, pork and beef, and fish from mountain-lakes or the Arctic Sea. Blue-berries, cloud-berries and lingon-berries are picked in the forests around. Depending on season, vegetables are partly grown in our garden and partly from the region. Bon appetit!
